North Korea, officially known as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), is a country located in East Asia. It occupies the northern half of the Korean Peninsula and shares borders with China and Russia to the north.
History
North Korea was founded in 1948 under President Kim Il Sung. It emerged as a separate state after the Second World War, when the Korean Peninsula was divided along the 38th parallel. The DPRK has been ruled by the Kim family ever since its inception.
